It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our much-loved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. After living in Parksville, BC, for many years, Reg passed away peacefully at The Gardens in Qualicum Beach on May 29. In recent days, all of his family were able to spend time with him. Born in Edmonton, AB, the son of Bert and Ina Quist, he grew up in Edmonton and began raising his family in Central Alberta. He loved the prairies but saw opportunity for his family on Vancouver Island and made the move in 1971. Known for his strong faith and work ethic, he lived his life unashamedly. He never fully retired but rather reinvented himself many times.
Starting his working career as an electrician, he worked in construction camps in northern Alberta and the Yukon, including time on the DEW Line. He formed his own electrical company in Alberta and moved into land development in Nanaimo, building homes, condos, apartments and shopping malls across the city. He helped numerous people through a career in financial planning, followed by entrepreneurial endeavours. He then moved on to a successful writing career that included 25 published novels, top-sellers in the contemporary Christian westerns category on Amazon.
Living out his Christian faith, he sang on worship teams, church planted in Port Alberni and lead a prison ministry. He and Ollie worked as a team supporting the Bethlehem Walk and did church visitation with seniors and the Lunch Bunch group.
His family was his great joy, and he is survived by Ollie, his devoted wife of almost 67 years, his children, Dave (Mary-Ann), Catherine (Floyd) and Ray (Jane), his cherished grandchildren, Jennifer, Beverly, Nick, Geoff, Heidi, Byron, Blake and Braden, their spouses and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Loretta (Norm) and Phyllis (Garry) and predeceased by his brother Brad.
A memorial service will be held on July 11 at 1:30 pm at Parksville Fellowship Baptist Church, 550 Pym St, Parksville, BC. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and pay their respects.
