Robert "Bob" Keown

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" Keown, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 25, 2026, at the age of 80. While his passing leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of those who loved him, we find comfort in knowing that he is finally at peace.

Born in St. Boniface, Manitoba, Bob spent much of his working life as a chef, a profession that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication. He was a private man with a stubborn streak, and those who knew him best also knew his appreciation for nature and life's quieter moments.

Bob found joy behind the lens of a camera, capturing the beauty of the world around him. He was also a talented artist who enjoyed bringing the world around him to life through his drawings. He loved spending time on the water and had hoped to go canoeing one last time. Though he hadn't ridden a motorcycle in decades, he never stopped reminiscing about the freedom of the open road and the adventures of his younger years. Bob had a lifelong admiration for eagles, and those who knew him will forever think of him whenever they see one soaring overhead.

Bob is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Catharine (Rob); his sons, Dwayne (Carla), Fred, and Robert; his grandchildren, Sierra (Ryan), Montana, Jenna, Corri, Jessi, Gabrielle, Solomon, and Balian; his former daughter-in-law, Meredith, who remained a cherished part of his extended family; his adored great-grandson, Teddy; his sister, Pam; his niece, Tami; and his nephews, John and Mike (Bobbi), along with their families. He was predeceased by his parents.

A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Yates Memorial Services, 1000 Allsbrook Road, Parksville, BC. Bob had hoped to reach his 80th birthday, a milestone he achieved with quiet determination. Holding his celebration of life on the eve of what would have been his 81st birthday allows us to celebrate not only the years he lived, but the strength and perseverance with which he lived them, rather than mourning the years he did not have.

Following the service, Bob's ashes and the ashes of his beloved mother will be scattered together in the Memorial Garden at Yates, where they will be laid to rest side by side at the same moment—a fitting tribute to the bond they shared and a peaceful place where their memories will forever remain.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to everyone for the love, kindness, support, and prayers they have received during this difficult time.

Bob's memory will live on in the stories we tell, the photographs he captured, the peaceful waters he loved, and every eagle that graces the sky.

May we remember Bob not with sadness alone, but with gratitude for the life he lived, the memories he created, and every eagle that reminds us he is never far away.
