Bob was a remarkable man who spent his early years on the family farm in Saskatchewan. After his father Robert Martin Sr passed away, he took charge of caring for his mother Gladys until she lost her battle with dementia in January of 2020. The two were incredibly close. He had a special relationship with his nephew Sean, treating him like his own son. He taught him how to farm and fish. Sean has many wonderful childhood memories on the farm with Uncle Bob running around and enjoying life.
He met the love of his life Leslie in the fall of 2005 and the two were inseparable. He took on her four children as his own developing an undying love and affection for each of them. He was present at the hospital for the birth of his grandchildren pacing anxiously waiting to meet his new baby. He was a proud and devoted father and grandfather never missing an important life event. Each child knowing full well if they ever needed him, he would be there for them with that amazing smile and kind heart ready to help them through whatever life curve ball was thrown at them.
He had a very special bond with his grandchildren each relationship was unique as he ensured to take an interest in what they liked most. From art to video games ending each visit with a hug and a whisker rub.
Bob loved hunting, and fishing. He spent countless hours ice fishing with Sean as a boy. One of Sean’s most vivid memories is cooking beans up in the can on the fish shack stove something Sean still does to this day when camping. Bob later shared his love of ice fishing with his wife Leslie and his grandson Kaiden when they spent a few years in Dinsmore, Saskatchewan, fishing on the lakes near their home.
After they returned to British Columbia Bob continued fishing and hunting with Leslie but now, they added his sons Michael and Cody and his grandson Kaiden to the adventures. Always a sight to be seen while hunting on the farm in his florescent orange jump suit or his camo which he was always wearing.
Bob was an avid member of the local Brown Baggers AA at the Arbutus church in Parksville. Known to many for his help in maintaining and assisting others in their individual stories of Sobriety. He was a friend and a mentor to many.
Bob is known for his kind heart and ability to tell an amazing story. Always keeping us on the edge of our seats waiting to see how it all turned out.
The world is a sadder place now that he is gone but we know in our hearts that we will see him again.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Bobs Favourite charities in Support of his Granddaughter Makenna. To either BC Children’s Hospital Orthopaedic Department or Imahippy in Bobs name.
A special interment service to be held at a later date at Lake city Cemetery in Imperial Saskatchewan.
