Growing up in Toronto, Ron spent 17 years in Europe, where he learned to speak 3 more languages, before building a home in Errington in 1975. As a union carpenter he worked on many local landmark buildings, finally building the Kathok Tibetan Buddhist Temple in Coombs which he designed together with Lingtrul Rinpoche.
His true passion was literature and he wrote 3 novels, 2 of which were published in Dutch translation by the prestigious literary publishing house De Bezige Bij, as well as countless short stories, and several radio plays.
He had the ability to bridge generations and connected with people of all ages. An avid outdoorsman from childhood, he loved tying flies, fishing, swimming, birding, hiking, camping and canoeing. He also built a lateen sail for his canoe with leeboards that allowed him to tack against the wind all the way from French Creek to the far side of Lasqueti Island.
Ron leaves behind Pleuke, his wife of 61 years, his son Richard and Richard’s partner Marie. According to his wishes he was allowed to pass-on naturally at NRGH. He will be happy to join his daughter Sasha in the afterworld.
