Born January 24, 1951 and passed away September 13, 2022.
Ron was predeceased by his father Williams, his mother Dorothy, and his older brother Douglas. Survived by Sophia Rodgers, his partner of 16 years, his son James, who lives in Fort St. John, BC, stepdaughter Jennifer Campbell and her family from Quesnel, BC, and his Aunt Joan (Ron’s dads’ sister) of Calgary, AB. They will all miss his caring ways and smiling face.
Ron was born and raised in Calgary until he started his career. After graduation, Ron started to work for the Canadian Weather Service in Fort McMurray, Alberta. While doing his job, he fell in love with the aeronautical industry and started training for his Air Traffic Control ticket. Ron worked in various locations in Western Canada with his career as an Air Traffic Controller, including Edmonton, Fort St. John and Prince George, where he retired in 2007.
It was while living in Fort St. John, that he became involved with the rugby community. Ron acquired many lifelong friends who were very close to him until his passing.
It was when he was transferred to Prince George, he met Sophia through a common friend. They dated for a period of time and the moved in together in 2006. After Ron retired, he went with Sophia and a group of his rugby friends to Wales for a World Rugby Cup Tournament – a high point of his life!
In 2016, they sold their home in Prince George and moved to Parksville, BC. It was here they met friends and visited with many old friends from the North. Living in Parksville they found lots of opportunities to golf, downhill ski, curl, boat, and fish.
Ron loved to be active and joke with his friends. Ron was especially fond of his four-legged friends and spent many hours walking and playing with them.
Ron and Sophia loved to travel and were able to camp throughout the western United States. One of Ron’s favorite places to visit in the winter was in the area around St. George, Utah. They went several years in a row and golfed in that beautiful area of the U.S.
There will be a celebration of life near his birthday, in January 2023 on Vancouver Island.
