Steve passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his closest loved ones, after a courageous battle with illness. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Melanie; his beloved sons Alexander and Mackenzie; his daughter-in-law Laura; and his cherished granddaughter Indigo. He is remembered by a large and loving extended family, his brothers Doug (Doris) and Ken (Lynda), his sister Lynn (Eugene), and heaps of nieces and nephews whom he adored.
He was a father who admired the patience and thoughtfulness his family showed to others, and through them, he found himself reflecting on what it meant to grow, to listen, and to become a better person. He took great pride in his sons, knowing that each generation would carry forward his legacy in their own way.
A man who loved to have a yarn with anyone, Steve had a way of making people feel seen, heard, and valued. His generosity knew no bounds, and his leadership—both in the boardroom and on the basketball court—was defined by his passion for mentoring and his belief in people’s potential. He made sure that everyone’s voice felt important.
In his final days, he poured his heart into his role as a grandfather, giving everything he had to Indigo. More than anything, Steve was a good man who cared. His love and his willingness to sacrifice for his family were constants, never questioned and always felt.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Steve’s care team, his friends, and all the family who generously gave their time, support, and love. Your kindness, your words, and your memories have meant the world, offering comfort and reminding us how much he was cherished.
We take comfort in knowing Steve is reunited in love with his nephew Adam, sister Jacqueline, and parents Dwayne and Greta.
We are profoundly grateful for him, for the life he built, and for the impact he had on all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed, always remembered, and forever loved—we carry him in our hearts and await all the ways he will find us moving forward.
If well-wishers desire, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.
