Winnifred was predeceased by her loving husband Clinton on January 21st 2013, two months shy of 51 years of marriage; her parents Harold and Pearl Green; and her sisters Barbra Watling and Lillian Wilcox.
Winnifred will be sorely missed by her eldest daughter Wendy Janice Trudel { Paul Dixon aka Blue}, middle daughter Angela Joy Mooney and her youngest daughter Hilda Darlene Mooney { Brian Isaac}; grandchildren Patrick Robinson, Kalen Manson, Christian Manson, Quinton Manson; her sisters Hazel Green and Alice Langill; and many nieces and nephews along with other family members.
Mom and Dad's {Winnifred & Clinton} love story began in Chatham New Brunswick, where they first met at a dance only to be reintroduced at the same dance one year later. They were married March 12th 1962. Clinton was a military man, and their first posting as a married couple was to Cold Lake Alberta. Their next posting was to Zweibrucken Germany in the mid 60's and it was there that their first child Wendy was born and nine months later then we moved back to Canada, and in Greenwood Nova Scotia is where their middle daughter Angela was born. Dad was then posted to Trenton Ontario and it was there that their youngest daughter Darlene was born.
Our family was posted to Comox British Columbia where we made many friends and travelled before being stationed back to Germany in 1981 until 1985. Mom and Dad could often be found square dancing along with daughter Angela, they travelled around Europe with their square-dancing club. Mom worked at the TV station on the base as well as taking care of the family. We travelled all over Europe going skiing in Switzerland with other family friends on a few occasions, travelled to England, Scotland, Holland, Spain, Austria and France where we visited Vimy Ridge and went to visit the grave site of Mom's Grandfather. As a family we always loved traveling somewhere whether across Europe or across Canada, you could always find us going on different adventures as a family having fun and making memories together; camping, sailing, skiing, fishing or visiting family in Quebec or back east in New Brunswick or Nova Scotia.
Mom and Dad use to get together with friends either at our home or their friends to play cards, us kids would often be playing with the kids while the parents were upstairs playing different games.
Mom had many hobbies including dancing, reading poetry, sewing, gardening, crocheting, painting ,crafting amongst other things and this is how Win's Silks began in Comox B.C.. Mom opened up her own business creating beautiful arrangements for weddings as well as doing all the decor and bouquets for the wedding. Mom had a talent for floral arranging and even did a long distance course to learn the finer details of floral design.
Mom loved her family especially her grandchildren, she loved having her family around to just hang out watching tv or being outside to BBQ. Mom loved to call her family back east to catch up on the latest because she just loved knowing how everyone was doing. One year us 3 girls made a plan to surprise Mom and Dad for Christmas, our plan worked out as we ended up showing up at 4 am and woke them up and surprised them and to give them a memorable Christmas present. All of us, Mom and Dad, myself Wendy, Angie and Patrick who was a baby then and Darlene went out to a
Christmas Tree Farm to cut down the perfect Tree for our family Christmas. We brought it home and all shared in the decorating of this tree.
Mom loved kids and animals, she loved watching Americas funniest home videos as well as the animal edition which she would watch with her youngest grandson Quinton who also loved it and laughed along with Nana Mooney, you could see her laughing at some of the funny things that kids and animals did. When Mom met my partner Paul they got along wonderfully and had many great conversations and even had nicknames for each other , she called Paul "Blue" and he called her "Blue Blue", this was their own little thing between them, they enjoyed their conversations on video calls. Mom liked to be a bit of a jokester and played many jokes on us as well as her grandkids, one April fools day she gave Kalen & Christian Oreo cookies which they loved, but little did they know she switched out the icing for toothpaste ha-ha, so when they went to eat their cookies they took one bite and had a look on their faces like " what is in this cookie" then a look of disgust came across their faces lol.
Mom was the matriarch and the foundation of our family and was always someone you could go to with any problem or just to be a listening ear for whatever you needed. When she became a Grandmother her grandchildren became the light of her life. They gave her the name Nana Mooney and she loved to watch her grandkids play sports and would cheer them on from the sidelines when she could. Mom had a little furball named Raffy, they had their own little relationship as it was a constant game who would be having to move out of the chair out in the back where Mom always sat,Mom always said to him "it's my turn Raffy out" it was really funny and whenever she was in her chair he'd come over and jump up on her lap but sometimes would start to make bread on her lap but Mom would say, " Sorry no orders today bakery is closed today" lol. Raffy was her little buddy and I know he loved being around her as much as she loved having him around. Mom always talked about her Grandsons Patrick, Kalen, Christan and Quinton, she always did what she could for them and loved them beyond words.
One our closet family friends; Richard Broomfield has been part of our family since we were all in Germany together where he became part of our family, he would come to visit Mom and Dad in Comox and in Port Alberni, he has been a dear friend WAD Squad, Wendy, Angie and Darlene, he's been there through good times and hard times especially when Dad passed away January 21st 2013, it was a very difficult time but Richard was a great help to all of us. So now since we lost Mom he has been a rock once again to us the WAD Squad. Mom was truly an amazing Mom, friend and someone you could always count on for anything in life. She loved her family and was such a selfless woman. We all miss her terribly and life is not the same without her, but we know she is no longer suffering and is with Dad and her Mom and Dad and Sisters and all other family and friends. We cherish her and the memories we made with her and Dad, we couldn't have asked for better parents and are blessed for the life they gave us.
Mom we love you more than life, you were a kind and loving Mom and we couldn't have asked for any better. You gave us all the best and you'll be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew and loved you, many family and many friends new and old, your memory will live on in those you loved Mom. Love from your very own WAD SQUAD Wendy, Angie, Darlene, in our hearts and thoughts forever our sweet Mom. Love you always and forever Mom xoxo
