Mando was born on August 28, 1960 to José and Herminia Cantú in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Deer Park High School in 1979. He went on to graduate from San Jacinto College with an associate’s degree in HVAC Technology and Refrigeration. Mando worked in the HVAC industry for over 45 years along with helping others with numerous jobs. He excelled in his ability to fix almost anything while enjoying the challenge of the problem.
Throughout his life, Mando always found a way to make jokes and have fun. In his younger years, he loved to push the limits and never missed out on a good time. “Work hard, play hard” describes his view on life. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. They got the best of him and never failed to make him smile. He taught his children and grandchildren the importance of independence, the value of hard work, the significance of intelligence, and to never take life too seriously. His tenacious fight against cancer leaves his family with confirmation that he was the epitome of never giving up. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sheila; children, Aaron Cantú, Andrew Cantú, Maygen Brooks (children: Tyler, Evalyn, Lillian “Lily,” Wendelyn “Winnie,” Caroline, and Lucas), Delilah Rothenberger (Jonathan, children: Roxanna “Roxy,” Elena, Lilyana “Lily,” and Joanna “JoJo”), and Rachael Cantú; siblings, Arnulfo “Ernie” Cantú, David Cantú, Magdelena “Maggie” McCraw (Emil), Daniel “Danny” Cantú (Sylvia, deceased), Alberto “Albert” Cantú, Jamie Cantú (April), Carlos “Charlie” Cantú (Perla), and Laya “Cha-Cha” Garcia (Mario, deceased); sister-in-law, Belinda Cantú (José Cantu, Jr., deceased); aunt Evangelina “Eva” Sanchez; Jena Bond (Austin, child: Josephine “Jojo”)and many cousins.
