Bertha Mae Ward

Bertha has passed to her eternal home in heaven and is resting in the arms of Jesus. She will be missed very much by all who loved her dearly. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie E. Ward, Jr. and her daughter, Stella Louise Ward-Mounce, as well as her nine siblings; Nancy Anglin, Bea Blackburn, Nora Herrin, Vergie Burrell, Louise Alston, Charles Brison, Hubert Brison, Vera Vawter, Troy Brison; making her the last of the Brisons from her generation.

Survived by daughter, Billye Jo Chutek, and three granddaughters that she and Charlie raised; Andrea Mounce-Miranda, husband Jorge, Letitia Mounce-Echeverri, husband Alfonso, Teresa Mounce-Jackson, husband Gary, Billye Jo’s children; Bernard Chutek, wife Karen, and Angela Hope. Great

grandchildren; Amber Jackson-Madden, Aubre Jackson-Limbaugh, Blake Echeverrri, Brittney Echeverri, Madison Miranda, Mckenzie Miranda, Mia Miranda, Mitchell Miranda, Steven Packard II, Amberly Packard-Almon, Reese Chutek, Adam Chutek, and Kylie Chutek. Survived by great-great grandkids; Mason Madden, Mckinley Madden, Camden Miranda, Isabella Echeverri, Madiyson Zuniga, Mason Packard, Myla Almon, Lyric Almon, and Wyatt Limbaugh.

Bertha was born on April 11, 1921 in Pumpkin Hollow, Oklahoma. She was the middle child of ten children. She and her siblings had a close connection growing up and throughout their lives that was celebrated with an annual family reunion with all of their extended families. She married Charlie E Ward, Jr. on April 19, 1937 at Sandpipe Hill, Stilwell, Oklahoma, by Pastor R.H. Rust, Baptist preacher. They had two daughters and raised three granddaughters. They were married for 59 years until Charlie’s passing on August 18, 1996.

Over the years, Bertha gave countless hours of her time helping others. She loved her family and her church. Her hobbies and talents included baking, canning, quilting, crocheting, sewing, gardening, and talking on the phone. She was a member of The Mavericks Class, South Main Baptist Church, Pasadena, TX. As confirmation of the tremendous impact she had on others, Bertha received over 100 birthday cards in April to celebrate her 99th birthday. She was in awe of all the thoughtful messages, pictures, scriptures, and all the sweet memories she once shared with friends and family. Bertha was one-of-a-kind and touched many lives, and she will never be forgotten as the matriarch of her family, and her legacy will live on.

Biblically speaking of the number 99; 99 is the number of sheep that were left behind by the Shepherd in the Jesus’ parable when he went out to seek one of the sheep that got lost. Number nine signifies divine completeness.
