Dick was born on April 14, 1949 in Paris, Texas and he grew up in Deer Park, Texas. Dick was a self-employed master plumber who truly had a passion for his career. If you ever went on a drive with him, he would point out the neighborhoods, homes, and businesses he installed the plumbing in and could talk plumbing and permits for hours. If he wasn’t working (which wasn’t often), he enjoyed driving out to the Isle of Capri Casino in Lake Charles, Louisiana and The Golden Nugget Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed watching the Astros, classic country music, and old western movies. You would rarely, if ever, see him in a bad mood, he never had an unkind word to say about anyone, and treated everyone with kindness. Dick was a private and modest man. He was strong, passionate, and selfless. Above all, Dickie was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather “Papa” who was loved dearly and will be greatly missed by many.
Dick was proceeded in death by his parents Pauline and J.B. Melton, his eldest son Michael Melton, daughter-in-law Michelle Melton, sister-in-law, Shirley Melton, niece Belinda Riley, and great-granddaughter Ruthie Eskew.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years Brenda Sue Melton; His daughters Julie Harvell and partner Cindy Harp, Brenda “Shelly” Davis and husband Jeff, Cheri Black, and Sheila Jacobs Morgan and husband Robert; his son Charlie Melton and wife Lora; granddaughters Gabrielle Dunn and husband Jeremy Eskew, Amber Harvell Rice and partner Mike Joseph, Shelby Rodriguez and husband Matthew, Autumn Black, Chelsea Melton, Heather Jacobs, and Faith Davis; grandsons Michael Melton and wife Amanda, Adam Black and partner Lacie, Harley Black, Cameron Schilhab, Jake Morgan, Nathan, Nicholas and Dakota Davis, and Noah Melton; greatgrandchildren Gabriel and Karsyn Eskew, Levi and Rylan Rice, Hendrix Joseph, Xander and Hudson Rodriguez, Tristel, Yaniah, and his “Darling” Lailah Winter, Ezra Ike, Hagan Jacobs, Maci and Easton Melton, Adam, Brooklyn, and Cohen Black, and Aiden and Logan Davis; brother Jerry Melton; sister Karen Ramella and husband Tony; nephews Jerry “Bubba” Melton, M.J. and Matt Ramella, and nieces Lisa Melton and Miranda Dyer.
