Joe is survived by his beautiful wife Maria; his three sons: Joe Anthony, Joshua Alexander and Jonathan Andres; his mother Maria Martinez; In-laws: Mr. and Mrs. Bonfilio Ponce; siblings: Joel, Rodolfo “Rudy” (Shannon), Norma (Manuel), Maria Elena, Gloria, Isabel, Alma (Nathan), Jesus (Kristyana “Kris”), (Miguel and Aracely Ponce); and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jose Martinez Jr.; his brother, Jose Luis Martinez; his goddaughter, Alma Isabel Adame; and his brother-in-law Luis Eduardo “Eddie” Jimenez.
Joe was born on January 4, 1974 in Pasadena, Texas to parents Jose and Maria Martinez. He graduated from University of Houston in 1998 with a degree in Management Information Systems. Shortly after, he began working contracted jobs as an IT administrator. He started his own IT company in 2009 and was eventually able to bring other family members to work with him.
In 2003, he married Maria and the couple had 3 children together. Joe was a great family man and a loving father. He was a spontaneous and generous man who was deeply involved in coaching little league for the majority of his life. He enjoyed sports and being involved with youth faith formation at church. His family and friends will always remember him as a stress-free and loving person.
Joe was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in late 2016 after being miraculously cured of cancer as a child. As the illness worked over time to weaken his body, Joe grew stronger spiritually. He used his illness as an opportunity to share his faith and encourage others. He thought of his illness as a mission from God to spread a message of spiritual healing despite physical disease. His family will continue to work to share God’s message as a way to honor his legacy.
The family would like to thank everyone for all of their prayers and continued support throughout Joe’s journey and transition. There will never be enough words to express the warmth that all of your messages, gestures and visits conveyed to us.
May God remember your kindness when He meets you.
