One of my favorite memories I had with grandma was when I was in kindergarten. When she would pick me up from school, she took me and Desirae to Casa Olé. Grandma took us everyday. All the waiters and waitresses knew our order. The manager would always tell us how we had such a special grandma. When I got married last year, I could tell it was hard on my grandma because I was always there. She would tell me “I’m happy for you mijita but I’m also sad because I won’t see you everyday”. I told her it’s was going to be okay because I would call her everyday and visit at least once a week.  When I would go visit, we would just sit and talk about everything. Those memories I will cherish forever. Before I would hang up the phone or leave from a visit, she would always tell me “Remember that grandma fita loves you and God bless you”. I will always remember and cherish those words. 


One of my treasured memories of Grandma was when I was in elementary school. She’d come and eat lunch with me. I’d enter the cafeteria with my class & there, I would see her standing by the entrance with a big smile and a hefty McDonald’s bag in her hand. She’d ask how my day was, meet my teacher & friends and end it with “I love you mijo, I’ll see you soon” eating lunch with Grandma was the HIGHLIGHT of my week. I love you Grandma.  

One of my favorite memories of grandma was that she would always make cinnamon tea at our house when I was little. I would get so excited when I saw the bag of cinnamon sticks on the counter.  I loved how the aroma would fill the kitchen. My mom, grandma, and myself would sit with mugs at the kitchen table and chat. I felt like one of the ladies. Another fond memory I have is when visiting, she would sleep in my room. My sheets would smell like baby powder when she left. She’d hug me goodbye and I’d wait for her to whisper, “I left you something in your room.” I’d run to my dresser because I knew she’d always leave me some loose change and a note that simply said, “Thank you.” Finally, I remember when I was in elementary, I taught grandma how to do the “Roger Rabbit!” We practiced a few times, giggling and giggling, until she got it right. When she did, we played some New Kids on the Block, and she nailed it! I love you grandma and will cherish these memories forever. May you Rest In Peace.
