

Mary Alice Hackward, 98, of Pearland, passed away December 24, 2024. She was born in Columbia, South Carolina on June 23rd,1926 to Alice L. Zimmerman. She was married to John D. Hackward for 56 years prior to his passing in 2001.
Mary and her mother moved to Tennessee when she was 6 years old. She grew up on a tobacco farm. After school each day she had farm chores. At the age of 15 she moved to Seattle, Washington to live with her aunt and go to work. She met her future husband, Jack, who was in the Coast Guard. In 1945 Mary and Jack married and moved to Houston, Texas. They had three children: Mary (Darrell), Linda (Jerry), and John (Diana). Mary loved being a mother; she was a very caring mother, wanting the best for her children.
She belonged to Christ United Methodist Church, and later Cokesbury United Methodist Church. She was very active in charitable and all church activities. She enjoyed working with all types of crafting and was very talented. She was very active in the Masonic Lodge in Eastern Star and Social Order of the Beauceant for over 50 years. She served as Supreme Chaplain for 1 year.
She is preceded in death by her mother; Alice L. Davis, and her spouse; John D Hackward.
She is survived by son John W. Hackward (Diana), daughter Linda Michalak (Jerry), daughter Mary R. Boone (Darrell). Grandchildren; Thomas Michalak, David Michalak, Carisa M. Boone Lesha Delgado, and Jon Boone. Great grandchildren, Stetsen Goodman, Mason Tilton, and Ivon Tilton.
Serving as Pallbearers are; Thomas Michalak, David Michalak, Stetsen Goodman, Mason Tilton, Ivon Tilton, and Bob Newlin.
