Celebrating the life of Robert Henry Baker
Robert Henry Baker (09/07/1934 – 12/01/2025) was born on September 7, 1934 in Dialville Texas. He grew up in Dialville, and upon high school graduation, he joined the US Army. Robert served our country as a soldier in the US Army, and the US Army reserves from 1954 through 1962, and received an Honorable discharge after his service. During his time in the reserves, he relocated to Pasadena Texas to take advantage of the opportunities in the chemical and petroleum industries. Not long after his arrival in Pasadena, he met Minnie Ross who would become his wife, life mate of 67 years, and the mother of his three children. For many years, Robert was employed at various petro-chemical plants along the 225 highway between Houston and Pasadena. He later served the state of Texas by working for the Texas Department of Corrections, and ultimately retired from his service as a state of Texas employee.
Robert was a skilled mechanic, and loved working on engines of any size, and restoring automobiles in his spare time. Being from Dialville, a rural area of Texas, and raised on a farm, he was naturally accustomed to using whatever he had on hand to repair a broken object, make a product work more efficiently, or to create something new and useful. He was skilled at welding, and had even designed and created specialized tools useful for completing specific jobs. He has laid flooring, put up paneling, installed roofing and vents, built cabinet doors, poured and finished concrete slabs, laid bricks, installed fencing, built sidewalks and sheds, done electrical and plumbing work, and rebuilt freezers and other appliances; these are a few of the projects that Robert had completed. “Ain’t much this ol’ country boy couldn’t do.”
Robert took great delight in listening to hymns and southern gospel music, and stated repeatedly that his favorite hymn was How Great Thou Art sung by Elvis Presley. Robert is remembered for diligently and consistently working hard to take care of his family being the devoted, dedicated family man that he was, along with his easy-going temperament, his warm friendly personality, his smile, his laugh, and his lifetime of enjoyment of his family and friends. We find comfort in knowing that Robert’s legacy lives on by the things he taught us, the love that he shared, and the memories that we will cherish, and hold in our hearts forever.
