Jean was a cousin on my dad's (Donald Freeman) side of the family. After he died in 1978, Jean and my mom (Peggy Freeman) talked on a daily basis until she died in 2015. Jean and I talked quite often, but it's never often enough. She was much loved and cherished. Prayers for the family for this great loss.

Jean Jones was like a second mother to me.  She and her husband, Buford, as well as her parents (Grandma & Papaw), son (David) and grandson (John) all lived next door to me while I was growing up in Houston.  Jean & Buford both were very good friends to my parents and for most of my young life, were family to me as much as my own blood relatives.  There were many times I remember just sitting on the driveway, in the early evenings, visiting, laughing and talking about the neighborhood happenings.  Also, for a while before having my first child, her son, David & I worked at the same bank  we would car pool to work together, but every morning before leaving, Jean would always have a fresh cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich or biscuit ready for me.  She was a generous person and helpful in so many ways.  One time, when my parents had to travel out of town, my sister, brother and I stayed with them.  I distinctly remember my little brother telling her that he hoped our parents did not come home too soon so we could continue staying with them!  Those were fun times.  As I grew older, got married and had my own children, I tried my best to remain close to Jean, always making an effort to visit as often as I could.  After Jean's husband & son past away, I would make a point of going to visit her on many of my trips back to Houston.  Then, when she sold her house, and moved into the retirement community in Pasadena, I visited her as often as time would allow me.  One trip, I remember, was a 2-day, overnight visit  we had such fun  I took her shopping, we went out to eat and even took time to drive down to Galveston just to see the sights (even though we'd seen them hundreds of times before).  I'd like to think I brought a little bit of joy and fun to her life, especially in her later years.  Jean was always someone I could confide in.  For as long as I remember, she was easy to talk to, would give me good advice and always opened her heart to me.  I will miss her greatly and know, as one of God's angels, she will be looking down on me from Heaven, guiding me to continue living a good life.  I love you Jean Jones; you will always be in my heart!
