Margaret "Peg" Remington Voges Williams of Paso Robles, California went to her heavenly
home on Friday, October 24,2014. She was 92 years young.
Peg was born in August, 1922, to Dr. Elmer James Remington and Viola McKinnis in
Burlington, Colorado. Having lost her mother at age 11 and father at 14, she and her sister,
Mary Helen, moved to Tekamah, Nebraska, raised by relatives. That experience helped her
grow up fast, independent, and full of determination to appreciate what life had to offer.
Peg attended Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri and the University of Nebraska School of
Nursing at Omaha, NE. After receiving her degree, she decided she really "didn't handle
the sight of blood too well" and looked for another career. She took a bus to California and
when World War \I broke out, was proud to serve her country at Lockheed Aircraft as "Rosy
the Rivetter", where she met and married Emil C. Voges. She and Emil raised four unique
children. Peg loved to read and continued her education. At age 40 she obtained her
Master's Degree at UCLA in Art History and re-entered the work force.
Peg's love of God was first in her life. She was active in the Lutheran Women's League and
played the organ and piano for church for decades. Peg played multiple musical
instruments, taught herself to weave on the loom, crocheted, operated a knitting shop with
her sister, and processed, developed, and mounted her own film. She also designed and
fired copper enamel jewelry and ran the office for her husband's tile business.
In 1969, Peg moved to San Luis Obispo and started the Slide Library for the School of
Architecture at Cal Poly. While working there, she met her future husband, Robert Estes
Williams, who taught civil engineering part-time, and owned his full-time Civil Engineering
and Soils Laboratory companies. They married in 1978, and after retiring near Lake
Nacimiento, they enjoyed boating, fishing, and traveling cross-country in their 5th wheel RV,
including Alaska and Nova Scotia. After Bob's death in 1997, Peg moved to Paso Robles to
be closer to family.
Peg is survived by her sister Mary Helen Kellim; four children, daughter Jacqueline
(Patrick), son Emil 'Jim' Voges, daughter Pam Voges Ruggles (Larry), and daughter
Rebecca Voges Henry; step-children Janine, Diane Jones (deceased) (Monte), and
Annette, grandchildren Christopher (Drew), Sierra Lynn, Sierra Danielle, Ryan and Tierra,
great-grandchildren Elijah and Lyric and numerous nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by husbands Emil Voges and Bob Williams, and grandson Russell
James Smith-Norris.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 1 :00 pm at Covenant
Presbyterian Church, 1450 Golden Hill Rd., Paso Robles, CA 93446, Rev. Dan Katches
officiating.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Peg’s name to your favorite charity.
