CLARENCE E. “BUD” HOARD, 87, recently of Worthington, Ohio, former longtime resident of South Lyon, Michigan, passed away November 30, 2017 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio following a period of declining health. He was born December 26, 1929 in Detroit to the late Clarence and Doris (Fairman) Hoard.
Bud proudly served our country in the U.S. Army and was based in Texas just after WWII. He went on to work for the family business, Hoard Pattern Co., founded by his father. It was during this time that Bud fell in love with Sharon, a phone operator at the company next door, whom he married and began a lifelong partnership. Bud was a highly skilled and detailed wood pattern maker with a wide variety of interests. He was passionate about every project that peaked his interests or required his attention and focus. Bud loved being adventurous in the outdoors, on his motorcycle, or flying his own plane. He was a master craftsman in woodworking, champion skeet shooter, and cherished his time spent in the Lake Huron area of Northern Michigan.
Through the years, Bud became active in multiple community organizations including his local Masonic Lodge. He was a true entrepreneur, establishing dry cleaning and interior design businesses before beginning a ten year career at Chrysler where he retired from.
Bud will be deeply missed by his devoted wife of 63 years, Sharon C. Hoard; children, Dan (Kathy) Hoard of Howell, MI, Ron (Kim) Hoard of Brighton, MI, and Joannie (Trevor) Long of Worthington, OH; sister, Caroline Ashleigh of Birmingham, MI; grandchildren, Marissa, Tyler, Andrew, Tanner, Emily, Garrett, and Nolan; along with many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
