Pastor Robert F. Hunter 96, of Pataskala, OH went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 19, 2011. Family will receive friends on Monday, October 24, 2011 from 3 to 6 pm at Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home, 289 South Main St. Pataskala, OH and Tuesday October 25, 2011 from 10 to 11 am with a Funeral Service to follow at 11 am at the Bethel Baptist Church, 7161 Beecher Rd., Pataskala, OH. Pastor Larry Maddux will be officiating. Interment will follow at Pataskala Cemetery, Pataskala, OH.
Pastor Hunter was born on February 13, 1915 in Lima OH to the late John and Ethel (Jones) Hunter. Pastor Hunter started his career in Oberlin, Ohio. He graduated from Cleveland Baptist Seminary in 1957 and retired as the founder and Pastor of Baptist Bible Church in Decatur, Illinois, where he pastored for 40 years.
Pastor Hunter served in the ministry for 58 years and has numerous accomplishments. He assisted in forming the Fundamental Baptist Fellowship Association and was later the FBFA Executive Director. Pastor Hunter received an honorary Doctorate degree from Carver Baptist Bible College and Institute. Dr. Robert Hunter’s autobiography: Don’t EVER Give Up! has been recently published. After his retirement Pastor Hunter continued to minister to many people. His kind and gentle heart allowed him to touch many lives in various capacities. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Pastor Hunter is preceded in death by his parents, John and Ethel (Jones) Hunter, his first wife Elberta “Betty” Hunter, daughter Deborah (Tommy) Briggs and siblings: Naomi, John, Henrietta, and Mary Ethel.
Pastor Hunter is survived by his loving wife of 20 years Shirley (Saunders) Hunter, his brother James (Ruth) Hunter, his children: Sharon Spottsville, Robert F. (Carol) Hunter Jr., Gary (Doris) Hunter, Grace Fain, Thomas Hunter, Daniel (Jannice) Hunter; and his children by marriage: Robin (Martin) Tolver, James Maurice Jones II, Larry Michael (Leslie) Jones, Mary Frances (Michael) Conrad, Jonathan Mark Jones, Jared Matthew (Angie) Jones, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
