Saundra Kay (Sonnie) Jones passed peacefully from this earth into the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ with Rob and Debbie Jo Beer, Marianne Beer Ruwe and close friend Barb Jenkins at her side on August 28, 2018 having finished her work here on earth. The daughter of Forrest and Emma Louise Burkey, Sonnie was born on November 28, 1943 in Columbus, OH. After the premature passing of Sonnie’s father, Emma Louise married Roland (Tootsie) Warner and she was raised in Columbus, Ohio. Sonnie was an outstanding student, Senior Class Secretary, made Queen Court and the Homecoming Court at Linden McKinley High School; she graduated in January 1962 and married Earl Eugene (Gene) Beer on February 24th, 1962 in Columbus, Ohio.
In 1962 son Robin William was born and in 1965 daughter Marianne Kay was born. Sonnie was tremendously and immensely proud of her children leaving her legacy of compassion, kindness and humility to live on in them. On July 1, 1983 Sonnie married Roland B. Jones and made a new home in Pickerington, OH. In retirement, Sonnie and Roland enjoyed wintering in Fort Myers, Florida for over 14 years.
Sonnie was a faithful child of God, daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, wife, passionate librarian, avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, and phenomenal housewife. She made her house a home and welcomed all. Likewise, God has welcomed her to her Heavenly home, “In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. John 14:2. Sonnie had church homes in Pataskala, Ohio and in Fort Myers, Florida. Sonnie loved reading her daily devotionals and prayed privately and faithfully.
Sonnie was a long-time member and active participant in Moms Club and Card Club. Known for her talent for organizational skills and tireless work ethic, Sonnie was an accomplished librarian. As the long-time librarian and informal “counselor” at Etna Elementary, she positively influenced many lives of the children with whom she interacted leaving fond memories of her as they have grown into adults. Sonnie continued to volunteer and work at Etna Elementary long into retirement.
Survived by husband, Roland (Pickerington), brother William (Theresa) Warner of Baltimore, OH, son Robin William Beer (Debbie Jo) of Galloway, OH and grandson Jonathan of Pickerington, OH,
daughter, Marianne Kay (Chad) Ruwe, grandchildren, Caroline, Emily, and Ethan of Edina, MN. Nephews Darren (Chanda) Burkey, Ryan Warner, Matthew (Evann) Martin, niece Dawn (Darryl) Burkey Becker and step-children Kim (Steve) Casto, Karla Highman, Paula Drake, Chris Jones, and step-grandchildren, Bryce, Mason, Celeste, Hannah, Olivia, Alex, Mitchell, and Elaine.
Grandma Z-Z, as Sonnie was called by her grandchildren, will be dearly missed but remembered fondly and lovingly. Sonnie was known for her kind heart, sweet personality, and generosity. In her passing, Sonnie has donated several organs to sustain hope and lengthen the lives of others.
Memorial and internment arrangements by Kauber-Fraley Funeral Home, Pataskala. Visitation at 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 8, 2018 followed by a Memorial Service celebrating Sonnie’s life at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to Etna Elementary (Library), Etna, OH or OhioHealth Hospice.
