Beloved mother and friend, Betty Patton Kilgore, 95, of Sharpsburg, GA, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. She and her husband of 73 years, Roy, built a beautiful life together serving God, providing hospitality, teaching people God’s truths, and walking with people
through difficult times.
Born on October 30, 1930, in Union City, Georgia, life soon became difficult for Betty’s family when her mother was forced to raise her three daughters alone. Throughout Betty’s childhood, her mother modeled the importance of working hard and persevering in the midst of difficulty. These traits characterized Betty throughout the adversities of her own life, including the illness and death of her only daughter, Janet Alane.
In middle school, Betty Patton met a boy named Roy Willis Kilgore. Although he was smitten with her, she didn’t warm to the idea until years later when she saw him in his Marine uniform walking down the street. She wrote him a letter and the rest is history. Their love for each other and the way they served each other has been a huge inspiration to countless couples in their sphere of influence.
In December 1951, Betty completed her nurses training at Georgia Baptist Hospital. However, she postponed her career for 17 years to raise her children. She then worked as an industrial nurse for JCPenney warehouses and retired after 21 years of service.
Betty was passionate about hospitality. She was a phenomenal cook who took great joy in providing meals for family and friends. She was detailed and meticulous, taking pride in making her home well-kept and beautiful. She loved to entertain, providing delicious food, laughter, and cards or games.
But most important to Betty was her faith. She embraced a relationship with Jesus as a young adult and it changed her life. She and Roy loved serving the Lord at College Park First Baptist
in College Park, followed by First Baptist Church in Peachtree City. They were active teachers and mentors who made an indelible impact on all who knew them.
Betty is survived by two sons, Vernon Keith Kilgore (Debbie) and Ken Kilgore (Elise); five grandchildren, Jamey Burgin, Jeffrey Jordan, Matt Kilgore (Chrissy), Josh Kilgore (Rachel), and
Danny Kilgore (Mary); and eight great-grandchildren, Jaydn Burgin, Lily Jordan, CJ Jordan, Piper Grace Kilgore, Alana Jordan, Liam Kilgore, Jonathan Kilgore, and Daisy Kilgore.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Rosalie Patton; sisters, Lillian Harbin and EV Ayres; and her beloved daughter, Janet Jordan.
Betty Kilgore’s Celebration of Life Service will be at First Baptist Peachtree City, on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 11:00am. The service will also be live streamed. The family is providing a reception for family and friends immediately following. Desserts and Drinks will be served.
