

Beloved husband “Ernie”, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend to all was called home to the Lord on October 19, 2024, in the presence of his wife, Nancy, of 60 plus years. Ernest Charles Broadwell was born on September 23, 1934 in Oneonta, NY, where he attended school and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged, with a disability, after almost five years of service.
Ernie attended Teterboro School of Aeronautics and worked for Pan American World Airways as an aircraft mechanic for 32 years out of JFK airport. During his tenure at Pan America, he was a shop steward, grievance committee man, and union counselor. Ernie was also elected to the Executive Board of TWU local 504. He attended college courses for contract negotiations. During the 1960’s Ernie traveled with the union to Washington, DC for civil rights; while there, he met John Lewis and witnessed Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream” speech.
In addition to his accomplishments at work, Ernie volunteered with the West Islip Democratic Party, serving as committee man, zone leader, and later President of the West Islip Democratic Club. Ernie also served as Treasurer for the Islip Town Democratic Committee. Ernie continued his support of the Democratic party by campaigning for Presidents Kennedy, Carter, and Clinton and Mayor Koch, to name a few.
In 1991, Ernie worked for Delta Airlines as an aircraft mechanic until he retired in 2000. After moving to Georgia, Ernie Volunteered with the Fayette County Democratic Party where he became Chairman in the early days, and later Third Congressional District Chair. Ernie Received the Speaker Thomas B. Murphy for Years of Service Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. Ernie was later honored and humbled by the Fayette County Democratic Committee with the Ernest C. Broadwell Legacy Award in 2012.
Ernie is preceded in death by his parents; two younger brothers, David and Richard; and a sister, Glennora.
Ernie is survived by his sons, David Sr., Dennis (Anchalee), and Timothy (Rebecca); nephew, Charles Broadwell (Ulisa); grandchildren, Jonathan, David Jr., Victoria, Jack, Jacob, Breanna, Emily, Christy, and Charlene. Additional family members include, Kathleen Broadwell, Suparat Broadwell; cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Ernie was a member of Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City, GA. A Church Service and Celebration of Life will be held on December 13, 2024 at 11:00am. Interment to follow, at a later date, in Oneonta, NY.
