James “Jim” Carlton Wheeler, 88, of East Point, GA passed away March 22, 2020. He was born in East Point, GA on September 13, 1931 to the late Tommie Lee Wheeler and Janie Wilson Hammett. Jim graduated from College Park High School, Class of ’49. He was married to Jean (Browning) Wheeler on April 18, 1953. They were married for 67 years. He served in the US Navy and was stationed at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, HI from 1950-1954. Known as “Georgia Jim”, he was 2nd Baseman for the naval base’s baseball team. After military service, Jim became a printer for Southeastern Underwriters and later worked as an insurance agent for BMA Insurance Co. Even after retirement, he worked various jobs to stay busy. He was an avid golfer and loved to play in his spare time.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Jean Wheeler; sons, James Daniel Wheeler (Debra) and Carlton Alan Wheeler; daughter, Lori Lynn Wheeler (Scott Bertrand); grandchildren, Anna Danielle Smith (Rhett) and Abigail Dane Wheeler; and his twin sister, Carolyn Wheeler Redding.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
