John J. Craven (Jack) July 17, 1924 – October 31, 2019

John J. Craven (Jack) passed away on October 31, 2019. He was born to Irish immigrants, Bernard Craven of Roscommon and Bridget McGurk of Carrickmore on July 17, 1924 in Philadelphia, PA. He was a 3 year U.S. Coast Guard Vet of World War II serving in the Pacific. He had a 40 year career in Agriculture, 18 years were in Industry and 22 years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture where he was in charge of the Federal-State Poultry Market News Service in Columbus, OH. He was recognized by the Ohio Poultry Association in 1975 as the Service Man of the year for his exceptional service to the industry. He was a past Director of the Produce Exchange, the Charles H. Salmon Building and Loan Association, an Honorary Member of the Knights of Columbus, Life member of AMVETS, and a member of the American Legion.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Bernard and Charles, both World War II veterans; one sister, Rosemary; and his beloved wife, Mary T. Gibson, who enriched his life for 66 years. There was no denial in my quest for the best. Regrettably at times I put her to the test. With her undying love, she generally offset the test. Thankfully, we are again together in that eternal rest.

Jack is survived by his children and their spouses, Rosemary Postle (Rick) of Charlottesville, VA, Cathy Federico (Frank) of Newnan, GA, Jerry Craven (Patti) of LaPorte, IN; 9 grandchildren; and 12 great -grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, November 9th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 101 Walt Banks Road, Peachtree City, GA 30269.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Thomas More Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 294, Drexel Hill, PA 19026 or to the charity of your choice.
