He attended and graduated from Lakeshore High School in 1977. He graduated from the University of Georgia, Terry College of Business in 1985. He always loved the Georgia Bulldogs; he attended in 1980 when the National Football Championship was won and enjoyed the two National Football Championships in 2021 and 2022. Joe was a “DGD”.
Joe worked at UPS for several years before joining the Coast Guard in 1986. He received many awards and ribbons during his military service.
At the time of his death, he was working and certified as a Master Mariner/Master Tow and Tankerman PIC. Joe enjoyed the ocean and working in this environment.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Amanda Michelle Mills, and his son, John Michael Mills; his sisters, Cathy Ratelle, Sherion Goodson, Lynn (Ben) Williams; and his nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews.
His funeral will be at a later date, with full military honors.
