

Mildred Claxton Ivey, 98, of East Point, GA passed away at home on February 10, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on March 8, 1927 to the late Thomas B. Claxton and Gladys Brigham Claxton in Girard, GA.
Mildred graduated from Girard High School in Girard, GA. Then, she went on to get her bachelor’s degree at Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA. She taught school briefly before getting married on December 15, 1957 to Joseph Cason Ivey. After getting married and having children, she became a stay home mom with her children and a full-time homemaker.
Mildred was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of East Point, GA. She enjoyed flower gardening and sewing, and loved spending time with her loving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband; and her siblings, Tom Ben Claxton, Mary Evelyn Heath, James Claxton, Bashie McMichen, Raiford Claxton, and Betty Claxton.
Mildred is survived by her children, Arthur Ivey, Claudia Owen, and Joel Ivey; her grandchildren, Rachel Marks, Jennifer Altimari, Benjamin Ivey, Mary Beth Wanyoike, and Joshua Ivey; and her great-grandchildren, Dominic, Royce, Reagan, Stephen, and Noah.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, in the Chapel of Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home & Crematory, 135 Senoia Road, Peachtree City, GA 30269, at 1:00pm with Pastor Tom Waggoner officiating. A visitation will be held in the Rose Room from 11:00am -1:00pm.
Interment to follow the services at Westview Cemetery, 1680 Westview Dr SW, Atlanta, GA 30310.
