The family will receive friends from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. The funeral service will take place at 10:00am on Thursday, June 3, 2021 in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow afterwards at High Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Raleigh.
He was born on April 9, 1941 in Yazoo County, Mississippi to the late Chris Gordon Johnston and Mary Estelle Farish Johnston. Mr. Johnston was a graduate of Pearl High School and a member of High Hill Baptist Church. He served in the National Guard and worked for the Department of Transportation as a surveyor for 38 years. A passionate musician, he was a member of the Faithways gospel group, playing guitar, bass, and piano. He loved music, and his family holds cherished memories of his performances, whether given in the bustling public or treasured one-on-one sessions. All of his grandchildren were impressed upon by his talent, creating their own journey with musical instruments.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 33 years, Frances Johnston and siblings Patricia, Betty, Chris, and Mary.
He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Johnston and Donna Wheeler; son, Tracy Johnston; grandchildren, Lily Johnston, Zachary Wheeler, and Tray Johnston; great-grandchildren, Realynn and Makaylin; siblings, Bobbie, James, Gerald, Diane, and Genny; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
