Donnie was born July 22, 1941, in Liverpool, West Virginia, son of the late Otmer Garrett and Wava Jean McGrew Garrett. A proud veteran, he served our country proudly in the U.S. Navy. Donnie enjoyed a storied career as a welder. Upon retirement he and his wife settled in Pearl, Mississippi, to be close to family. An accomplished handyman and avid outdoorsman, Donnie enjoyed "piddling around the house", and was always on the trail of the elusive lunker bass. A man of few words, he said what he meant and meant what he said. In his later years, he truly enjoyed time spent with family, especially his grandkids and great grandkids.
Donnie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce Juanita Grimes Garrett; son, Michael D. Garrett (Melinda); daughter Donna Garrett-Miller (Billy); five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will hold a private service.
