Bette was a life-long resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, arriving as a Leap Day baby on February 29, 1928. She was a secretary at Touro Infirmary for 27 years. She evacuated to Pearl after Hurricane Ida.
Bette won over all who met her with her sparkling blue eyes, ready smile and quick wit. Despite enduring many physical ailments over the years, she always maintained her sense of humor. She was proud of all her children. She loved traveling the world with her daughter and best friend, Nancy, with whom she lived many years. She loved animals, good food, the Carnival parades that rolled close to her home, and visits from Nancy's friends. After arriving in Pearl, she became a big fan of sumo wrestling, bird watching, and true Southern accents.
Bette was preceded in death by her parents, John the Baptist Aloysius Kingsmill, Sr. and Edna Bernadette Lettell Kingsmill; sister, Edna Rita Raymond; brother, John the Baptist "Jack" Aloysius Kingsmill, Jr., and newborn son, Alan.
Survivors include son, Brian (Renee) of Pearl; daughters, Nancy of New Orleans, Kathleen of Metairie, LA, Janet (Larry) of Slidell, LA; and honorary daughter, Darlene Pichon, of French Settlement, LA.
Special thanks to the kind folks at Guardian Angels Hospice in Metairie, Louisiana and Compassus Hospice in Flowood.
