

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Interment will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
Mr. Slay was a member of McLaurin Heights United Methodist Church in Pearl, a combat veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII and a member of the Masonic Lodge. His career in the auto business began in 1953, spanning 50 years until his retirement in 2003 with the closing of his dealership, Glen Slay Auto Sales of Jackson. He loved his friends and family and particularly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Evelyn Avery Slay; son Avery W. Slay and wife Lynn; daughters, Peggy Foggin and husband Roger and Patty Roper and husband Richard; brothers, Horace, Kenneth, Rodney and James Slay; grandchildren, Matthew Williamson and wife Liesl, Cory Slay and wife Kristi, Justin Slay and wife Esther, and Beth Roper; and great-grandchildren, John Avery, Hadley, William and Sydney Slay.
