Jerry Monroe Burt, 84, passed peacefully on the afternoon of December 25, 2025, surrounded by love and comfort. Jerry shared Christmas morning wrapped in the love of his family on earth, and by afternoon, he was held in the presence of Jesus – celebrating the Savior’s birth alongside his heavenly family once more, reunited and at peace for eternity.
He was born on October 10, 1941, to Harvey and Nell Burt in Gallman, MS. His family soon settled in Plain, MS, later known as Richland, MS, where he spent his childhood forming friendships that would last a lifetime. In Richland, Jerry also met and married the love of his life and wife of 56 years, Linda Kaye Burt.
Jerry was a faithful servant of his community and his church. He was saved and baptized at First Baptist Church in Richland, MS at a young age. He later married his wife in this church and witnessed both daughters’ baptisms here. This church was always home to him because of the lasting impact it had on him and his family. In later years, Jerry and Kaye attended First Baptist Church, Jackson. They spent their retirement years in close fellowship and friendship with the members of the choir and their Sunday School class at FBC, Jackson. Jerry also found deep fellowship through his men’s Bible study at the Richland Senior Center and through his cherished Richland ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out).
Jerry was a proud graduate of Mississippi State University and enjoyed a long and dedicated career at Mississippi Power & Light, later known as Entergy, until his retirement in 1997. His coworkers became family to him, as he stayed in touch with many of them throughout the years. He also served his country honorably in the Army Reserve, including service in the Gulf War as Battalion Commander of the 365th Supply and Service Battalion. Jerry carried himself with integrity, duty, and quiet strength – truly an officer and a gentleman in every sense.
His greatest life’s work was loving and caring for his family. He was a devoted husband, an encouraging and present father, and a doting grandfather who cherished every moment spent with those he loved. He most looked forward to family lunches, golf outings, and heartfelt conversations rooted in laughter and love.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Nell Burt; his siblings June Murphy, Joe Burt, and Nelson Burt; and his beloved wife Linda Kaye Burt.
He is survived by his daughters: Miranda Armstrong of Ridgeland, MS and Emily Statham (Jason) of Brandon, MS; and grandchildren: Blakeney Armstrong of Pearl, MS and Zachary Wilmoth of Gainesville, FL.
Jerry leaves behind a family who adored him and friends who will forever carry the gift of his loyalty, humor, and love.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 2, 2025, from 5:00pm-7:00pm and on Saturday, January 3, 2025, from 1:00pm-2:00pm at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl, Mississippi.
A service honoring Jerry’s life will be held on January 3, 2026, at 2:00pm at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl, Mississippi, where family and friends will gather to celebrate a man who served deeply, loved faithfully, and gave generously from a sincere heart. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park on Clinton Blvd in Jackson, Mississippi.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Richland Senior Center In memory of Jerry Burt P.O. Box 180609, Richland, MS 39218.
