Jerry was born August 14, 1933, in Jayess, Mississippi, one of fifteen children of the late Alex and Velma Nettles Myers. Following his high school graduation Jerry joined the U.S. Navy, and served during the Korean War aboard the USS Point Cruz. After 39 years of dedicated service he retired from South Central Bell as an engineer. Following his retirement Jerry, now well into his sixties, chose to continue his education as a “jack of all trades” by going to college where he received a technical degree in HVAC installation and repair.
Jerry was a true outdoorsman and he enjoyed many varied hobbies. He liked to go bird and fox hunting and fishing. He raised horses, cows and dogs and participated in team roping and field trials where he was ranked 14th Internationally.
Whatever he did, Jerry was all in- never halfway. His committed approach to life was never more evident than when he was assisting someone else. Numerous times he and his wife opened their home to others in need and Jerry never hesitated to cut a neighbors grass or aid in any way needed.
Jerry’s lasting legacy for dedication to work and a job well done and his spirit of love and generosity will long live in the hearts of all who were blessed to walk in his light.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 71 years, Joyce Magee Myers; daughter, Kay Powell Hosey (James); sons, Victor Myers (Debbie), David Myers, Greg Myers, and Tim Myers (Ginene); 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who he loved and respected greatly.
