With hearts full of profound love and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother Lena Jewel Mattis Eady, 90, of Terry Mississippi, whose warmth, strength and unwavering devotion shaped the lives of all who knew her.
Born on September 12, 1935, in Adams Station, Mississippi, to Mr. J.C. Mattis and Mrs. Clara Berryhill Mattis, she was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, brothers, Tom and Joe, and sisters, Christine and Jo Anne.
Jewel shared an extraordinary 73-year marriage with her beloved husband, James “Jim” Eady. Together, they were true soulmates—rarely seen apart and admired by all who knew them. Their unwavering love and devotion stood as a shining example of a faithful, Godly marriage. She was a proud and devoted stay-at-home mother to three sons—Jim Eady (Mildred), Joe Eady (Renee), and Jeff Eady (Sandy). She instilled in them strong values, deep faith, and the importance of family. Their home was the heart of it all, filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. She was a beloved “Mamaw” to Matthew Eady (Bridget), Jamie Alford (Tommy), Kimberly Fogarty (Patrick), Charles Eady (Kim), Jessica Stephens (Neill), and Brandon Eady (Sarah), and she leaves behind nine great-grandchildren, with two more on the way, all of whom brought her immense joy.
Known for her compassionate and gentle spirit, Jewel never spoke an unkind word and had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel like family. She was generous, wise, patient, and endlessly kind, truly embodying Proverbs 31:25–26: “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.”
A faithful member of First Baptist Church of Byram, Jewel cherished her Sunday School class, as well as her time with her Bunko group and the Palestine Homemakers Club. Jewel had a deep love of the outdoors. She took great pride in her yard and, even in her late 80’s, could be found riding her zero-turn mower. With a true green thumb, she cultivated beauty wherever she went, tending her flowers and delighting in the hummingbirds she loved to watch. She was a talented crafter, creating homemade treasures that will be cherished for generations.
At home Jewel was an exceptional cook that brought people together and turned simple moments into lasting memories.
Jewel leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, deep love, and cherished memories that will live on in all who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, “Mamaw” will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl, Mississippi, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, Mississippi.
The Eady family thanks you for all your love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. “Mamaw” will forever remain in our hearts.
