Sarah was born September 5, 1935, in Magee, Mississippi, a daughter of the late James Henry Perrett and Lona Jones Perrett. She was a graduate of Mendenhall High School and a lifelong member of the Baptist faith.
Devoted to her family, Sarah delighted in her roles as a wife, mother, and grandmother, and was never happier than when she was spending time with them, especially her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved cooking for her family and holidays were always made special with her delectable feasts, particularly her homemade dressing.
Never one to be idle, Sarah could often be found tending to her lawn and garden, or cleaning and organizing her home. She also enjoyed traveling, attending flea markets, playing dominoes and rook, and eating out. Jerry’s catfish was one of her favorites.
Sarah will best be remembered for her sense of humor and innate ability to overcome even the most difficult of challenges. Her positive attitude served her well during the demanding times in her life, and she instilled that “can do” spirit in her children.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Shelby C. Byrd, and son, Gregory S. Byrd.
Survivors include sons, Richard C. “Ricky” Byrd and wife Sherri, and James A. “Tony” Byrd and wife Tami; daughters, Debbie J. Horn and husband Billy, and Cassondra G. Grantham; brothers, Harold W.
