Doug was born April 30, 1941 and was reared in Raleigh, MS. Doug finished high school in Raleigh and went on to graduate from the University of Southern Mississippi where he met and made many lifelong friends. Doug’s career in accounting spanned decades having worked for MFC Services in Madison, MS, SF Services in North Little Rock, AR, and Farmland Industries in Kansas City, MO.
Doug was preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Sylvia Ingram Thornton; his mother Winnie Mae Newcomb Thornton; and two brothers Donald Thornton and Michael Thornton.
Doug is survived by his two sons Kyle Ingram Thornton (Timberly) of Hattiesburg, MS and Kelly Houston Thornton (Brittany) of Durango, Colorado; his grandsons Cole Houston Thornton and Turner David Thornton of Durango, Colorado; two brothers Paul David Thornton (Susan) of Center Ridge, MS, and Keith Thornton (Linda) of Pineville, MS; brother-in-law Dr. Fred Ingram (Maridel) of Jackson, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews. Doug was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many.
A funeral service will be held at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl, MS on Friday, March 24 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be on Friday, March 24 from noon - 2:00 PM.
