Bill was a man of his own, joining the Army at the age of 18, and he served four years. After being out of the Army for one year, he joined the Navy. He spent the next twenty years of his life serving his country and family. He was an electrician in the engineering unit called the Seabeas. He sailed on several ships and submarines. He visited many countries during his service. Bill served in the Vietnam War building camps for the military. He received two purple hearts after being wounded.
Preceding him in death is his wife, Barbara Childers; parents, Forrest Childers and Effie Childers; sisters, Mary Varner and Ella Mae Hammock; and brothers, James Childers, Donald Childers, and Frankie Childers.
Survivors include sisters, Jean Bray, Joyce Layton, and Judy Bailey; brothers, John Childers, Charles Childers, and Cameron Childers; 22 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Bill will be laid to rest at Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery in Madison on March 23, 2024 at 10:30am, with graveside services only, per his wishes.
