

Charles was one of 11 children. A native of Hearn, Texas, he enlisted in the United States Navy on July 1, 1969. He served onboard USS LYMAN K. SWENSON from 1969-1971, earning the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star prior to being honorably discharged.
After honorably serving our country, Charles moved to Houston, Texas, where he would meet the love of his life, Ms. Margaret Teachey. He always said that he knew she was the one after bringing him a ham sandwich for lunch. Because he loved his beloved Margaret so much, her children became his. Charles went from living as a single bachelor to a husband and father of 8!
Charles graduated from The University of Houston with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and later received his Real Estate Broker and Inspection License. For more than 15 years, he ran his own successful business, Charles Nelson Realty and Inspections.
Charles was a member of Brentwood Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher and would later earn his appointment as Reverend Charles E. Nelson.
Charles lived a blessed life with his wife Margaret for more than 33 years. His soulmate left this earthly realm to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 10, 2013.
Charles continued to push through and provide love, support, and wise counsel to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his children: Robert Thomas, Mary Winfrey, Donna Thomas, Ernest Thomas, Dave Thomas (Sondra), David Thomas (Mary); Siblings: Annie Nelson (Houston), Ventra Nelson (Houston), Georgia Nelson Rosemond (Cameron), Paul Nelson (Houston), John Nelson (Houston), Drae Nelson (Bryan College Station), Terry Nelson (Houston); Grandchildren: Shavonda Richard (Keith), Sam Thomas (Brittany), Charlie Winfrey, Christine Thomas, Ashley Sadé Robinson (Curtis), Jernedra Siphon Thomas, Patrice Thomas, Jeremy Thomas, Adrian Willis, Jay Thomas, Bria Thomas, Cheyenne Thomas, Dave Thomas Jr., Dylan Thomas, Devin Thomas, Destiny Thomas, Diamond Thomas, Tyson Broussard, Brady Broussard; And a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Charles Nelson is preceded in death by Margaret Nelson (Wife and Soulmate); Juanita Nelson (Mother); Brothers: Robert Nelson, James Nelson, and Billy Nelson; Daughters: Ernestine Thomas and Elnora “Peaches” Thomas.
A visitation for Charles Nelson will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Forest Park South Funeral Home, 12650 Shadow Creek Parkway, Pearland, TX 77584. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, August 6, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 12650 Shadow Creek Parkway, Pearland, TX 77584. A committal service will occur Tuesday, August 6, 2024 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Houston Memorial Gardens, 2426 Cullen Blvd, Pearland, TX 77581. The repass will be held immediately following at Big Horn, 2300 Smith Ranch Rd, Pearland, TX 77584.
