

Chautauquea “Taka” Davis Humphries was born on December 21, 1978, to Alvin Vance and Rhonda (Davis) Mathews in Houston, Texas. She attended Madison High School and graduated from Ross Shaw Sterling High School in 1997 with honors. Taka has always been independent and hard working. After graduating from high school, she held down a job in retail while attending The University of Houston Downtown. She then worked as an Executive Administrator at a prestigious law firm in Downtown Houston. She subsequently found a career home at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center where she
supported several research doctors and colleagues as an Administrative Coordinator at She was a loyal and hardworking colleague of over 15 years who was well loved and respected.
Family was paramount to Taka. She was the glue that held the family together and the Big Sister to everyone. She prided herself in making everyone feel special and loved individually and uniquely. Maintaining connections and bonds a priority. She was love personified.
Taka’s magnetic energy, big bright smile, infectious laugh, and outgoing personality drew others to her with ease. She never met a stranger and organically became everyone’s best friend, advisor, protector, and biggest cheerleader. Her friends were her family and were deeply cherished.
Taka gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Kennedy Nevaeh Sherrod, on August 27, 2002, in Houston, Texas. She fell in love with her daughter at first sight and was proud to see her bloom into an intelligent, strong, sensitive, loving, and brave young woman. Their bond was instant and unbreakable. Their similarities are found in their sense of humor, beauty, and how fiercely they loved each other.
On May 25, 2024, Taka said, “I do” to Clinton Humphries in an intimate ceremony surrounded by close friends and family. In Clinton, she found a true partner, her perfect balance, her soulmate, and someone with whom she planned on spending a lifetime of love and laughter.
Taka is survived by her husband Clinton Humphries; her parents, Alvin Vance and Rhonda Mathews; her daughter Kennedy Sherrod; her grandmother Lois Vance; her sisters Tonishea Coleman, Alicia Landry, and Ashley Vance; her brothers Stephen Mathews, Cordorial Mathews, and Michael Pittman, Sr.; her goddaughters Tyia Thornton and Peyton Hunte; her godsons Kailan Griffin, Azaiah Armstrong, and Kade Johnson; and a host of family and close friends.
Taka is preceded in death by her paternal grandfather Augusta Vance; her maternal grandmother Betty Lou Davis; her stepfather Norman Mathews, and her cousin Jada Molina.
She will be missed very dearly missed!
