Donna Lynn Kroning

1944 - 2023

Donna Lynn Kroning, age 79, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023, from complications of vascular dementia. Donna was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1944. At the end of WWII, her family relocated back to their native Houston, Texas and settled in West University Place. As a child, Donna accepted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized at West University Baptist Church. She was an accomplished accordion player and archer. Always the exceptional student, she was in the honors programs at Bellaire High School. She furthered her education at Texas Tech where she earned her Bachelor of Arts and a Master in Education.

In 1971, in the prime of her life at age 27, Donna suffered an iatrogenic stroke at the hands of a derelict physician who drove her back to her apartment and left her unattended. She never quit on life and tried to rise above her circumstances. After her stroke, she graduated from the University of Houston with her Master of Social Work Degree. Her career path included nursing home surveyor for the State of Texas and social worker for The Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center.

Donna loved her flowers and maintained beautiful, lush flower beds until it became too difficult. To remain active in gardening, she entered the Harris County Master Gardener Program. Even with one hand, she completed flawless embroidery and needlepoint projects. Donna cherished her loyal and supportive group of friends who included her in their activities and travel. They encouraged Donna to remain strong and productive. She had a great sense of humor, delighted in making her friends laugh, loved helping others, and was generous almost to a fault. She was resilient and determined to live an independent life.

A special thank you to Priscilla Scott for her long friendship and care for Donna which allowed her to remain at home in Country Place in Pearland, Texas longer than imagined.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret McIntire Kroning and Donald L. Kroning. She is survived by her sister Nancy Kroning of Pearland. She is also survived by cousins, Roger (JoAnn) Kroning of Houston, Texas, Jessie Nell (Jack) Lindsey of Vernonia, Oregon, Kim (Henry) Buck of Tomball, Texas, Georgia Brogdon of Houston, Texas, and Robert McIntire of Austin, Texas.

The family will receive friends for Donna 10:00 AM on Friday, October 20, 2023 at Forest Park South Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 20, 2023 at Forest Park South Funeral Home. Committal Service will conclude at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 20, 2023 at Forest Park Westheimer.
