Johnny Lee Gilliam, born July 25, 1971, to Walter Lee Gilliam and Doris Alma Roth in Frankfurt, Germany, lived a life defined by profound devotion, unwavering strength, and infectious humor.
Johnny spent his early years in Killeen, Texas, before moving to St. Louis, Missouri, during middle school. While his geography changed, his sense of commitment remained constant, especially when he met the love of his life.
In 1997, Johnny met Shanta D. Gore through a mutual friend while working at GC Services. Their connection blossomed, and they married four years later on August 31, 2001. Together, they built a beautiful family, welcoming two daughters: Tahzmyn S. Gilliam (born March 14, 2005) and Londyn J. Gilliam (born November 20, 2010).
Family was Johnny’s universe. John was a devoted husband, he later call his wife, Shanta, his earthly “angel.” He was an incredibly proud father and took immense joy in his daughters' accomplishments, celebrating Tahzmyn's nursing school journey and Londyn’s achievements in academics and on the soccer field. His constant reminder to them, “Stay Focused,” was a testament to his belief in their potential.
Though John faced a nine-year health battle with incredible courage, his spirit never diminished. It was filled with the warmth of his love and the laughter he inspired. Johnny’s legacy is not just in the fight he waged, but in the love he effortlessly gave. His devotion, strength, humor, and endless love will continue to guide all those privileged to have known him.
John is survived by his loving wife, Shanta, and his amazing daughters, Tahzmyn and Londyn; his sister, Melissa Wright and her husband, Homer; and his brothers, Walter Gilliam and his wife, Lisa, and Michael Gilliam and his wife, Laverra. He is survived by a host of cherished nieces and nephews: Nicholas, Markum, Jordan, Shonna, Kamran, Heyleigh, Adam, Journee, Jace; in-laws, Juanetta Gore, Tiffany Cutts and her husband, Jeffrey, Juaneka Gore, Tamika Shropshire, MacKenzie Gore, Timothy Barnes, Carlos Furnace and Adija Gaddy and a host of additional relatives and close friends.
We find comfort in the promise of eternal peace found in Revelation 21:4: “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” We look forward to the day when sorrow is replaced with reunion and peace.
A private memorial will be held in his honor.
John is now at rest, surrounded by the powerful and enduring love he built.
