

Born February 20, 1930 in Manito to Henry Chester and Sarah Gladys (Tadlock) Callaway, he married Sharon Jean White on September 23, 1963 in Creve Coeur. She survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Bill Callaway of Morton, Jimmy Rizik of Georgia, Albert Gene Callaway of Pekin and Robert (Melissa) Toy of California; six daughters, Peggy (David) Avery, Suzanne Marie Callaway, Judy Blazevich, Linda Bishop and Lisa Callaway, all of Pekin, and Vickie Sue Garlock of North Pekin; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry Raymond Callaway of Texas; and two sisters, Opal Pauline Taylor of Pekin and Vera Mae Leitner of Spring Bay.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Albert was a member of Town & Country Baptist Church in Pekin.
He had served in the United States Army during the Korean War, earning four Bronze Stars and one Purple Heart.
He worked as a roofer for 33 years in the Pekin and Peoria areas. He had worked for Pekin Roofing, George Young & Sons, and Thomas Roofing, retiring in 1988.
Albert had been a lifetime member of the George Maple Memorial AMVETS Post #235 and the Roy L. King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1232, both in Pekin.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and singing karaoke.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2012 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Mike Hopps will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded.
