WASHINGTON ~ Alice Jean Meier-Estes, affectionately known as Jean to her friends and family, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on February 22, 2025 at Washington Senior Living in Washington.
Born on January 11, 1945 in Peoria, Illinois, to Jacob and Dorothy (Funk) Meier, Jean's vibrant spirit and infectious laughter brought joy to everyone she encountered throughout her 80 years of life.
After Jean graduated from Richwoods High School, she married John D Estes, Jr. (1965 - 1984) moving their family to Germantown Hills, where she spent most of her life. Jean held a wide variety of employment including Caterpillar, OSF, Landmark Health Club, Brooks Clothing Store, among others. She fulfilled a lifelong love of learning by taking a myriad of classes at Illinois Central College.
Her thirst for knowledge was as boundless as her energy, which she channeled into her passions for music, dancing, and fitness. Jean's love for rhythm and movement was evident to all who knew her, and she was often the first to get up and dance whenever music played. Those who knew Jean will remember her as a loving, funny, and generous soul, a woman who could light up a room with her quick wit and easy smile. Her laughter was contagious, and she had a unique gift for making people feel at ease and cherished in her presence.
Jean's legacy is carried on by her adoring family: her children Jana Remmert (Tom), Steven Estes (Anna), and Robert Estes (Vanessa); her treasured grandchildren Zachary and Jacob Remmert, Jennica and Jillian Estes, and Alexandria, Autumn, and Jordan Estes; her devoted siblings William Meier (Mindy), Barbara Grant (Robert), Rachel Turelli (Paul), Robert Meier, and Mary O'Brien (Daniel), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her parents preceded her in death.
In the hearts of her family and friends, Jean's spirit dances on, a reminder that life is to be celebrated and that every moment is an opportunity to create joy. Her laughter echoes in the stories they will continue to share, and her love is the melody that will guide them through the days ahead.
To honor Jean's memory, share stories, and celebrate the indelible mark she left on the hearts of family, friends and the world, her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Bill Meier will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior. Burial will be at Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Edwards.
