Born April 30, 1963 in Pekin to Kathlyn Myra Wooding, she married Basilio Ortiz Cruz on January 27, 2005. He passed away on January 22, 2022. They were passionate for family and were heartbroken with the loss of their only child early in pregnancy in 2005. They were both full of love and life for one another and everyone they met.
Surviving are two sisters, Susan Devall of Pekin and Carol (Jim) Starky of Forest City; one brother, George (Renea) Miller of Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; mother; one great-niece, Kathlyn Justice Marie Carson; and three brothers, Harry, Harold, and Terry Haynes; one brother-in-law, Allen Martin Devall.
Alice worked for the Pekin Township as a photographer and as a bus monitor for preschool children but her true passion was art.
She had a fun loving bubbly personality, always trying to bring a smile to your day and always kept her faith in God.
Alice always dreamed of being a famous artist and having portraits hanging in the White House alongside her friend and painter, Lester Chase. While her painting never made it to the White House she did paint many family portraits and a mural in Pekin.
She loved going to church and put God ahead of everything.
Her visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2022 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. A graveside service will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin. Pastor Mike Forbis will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.
