

Born December 29, 1916 in Brandon, Wisconsin to George and Susan E. (Williams) Schwandt, she married Merle Elman Singley on January 1, 1938 in Brandon, Wisconsin. He died April 8, 1993 in Pekin. Her parents also preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Stephen P. (Debra) Singley of Coal Valley; two daughters, Susan K. (William) Sundstrom of Erie, Colorado and Patricia A. (Roger) Bushue of Pekin; eight grandchildren, Kimberly J. (Steve) Dake of Cambridge, Wisconsin, Kira K. (Jess) Baldwin of Aurora, Colorado, Karry L. (Derrick) Burson of Champaign, Kelly A. Bushue of Bloomington, Lance Corporal Erin M. Sundstrom of Twentynine Palms, California, Matthew P. Singley and Mark R. Singley, both of Coal Valley, and Ethan E. (Kelly) Sundstrom of Carbondale, Colorado; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Enid Kelly of Fennimore, Wisconsin and Jan Griswold of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.
Ardis was an elementary school teacher for Pekin Public Schools District #108 for 19 years, retiring in 1977 from Douglas School.
She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Pekin and the Tazewell County Retired Teachers Association.
Ardis enjoyed playing cards, reading, bowling, and socializing with friends.
Her memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2007at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Pekin. The Rev. Jan C. Johnson will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.
