

Born September 1, 1928 in Pekin to Doede and Bertha (Evans) Johnson, he married Marjorie Aileen "Marge" Portwood on August 13, 1960 in Canton. She died December 14, 2008 in Pekin. He also was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald Johnson.
Surviving are three daughters, Kitty (Ron) Robinson and Debbie (Larry) Dial, both Pekin, and Stephanie "Dottie" (Rob) Buck of Fort Walton Beach, FL; one step-son, Bob (Cathy) Myers of Saltillo, MS; seven grandchildren, Vicki (Robbie) Bass, Marcy (Sean) McGinnis, Curtis (Heather) Robinson, Roger Buck, Jason (Jessica) Myers, Justin (Katrina) Dial, and Amanda (Bobby) Collins; eight great-grandchildren and one sister, Jessie (Ted) Savage of Pekin.
A lifelong Pekin resident, Barney worked for Pabst Brewing Company in Peoria Heights for 25 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1990. Following retirement, Barney worked part-time for Velde Ford as a courtesy driver and for Nena Hardware in Peoria, last working in 2007.
He attended Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin and was a former member of Christ Lutheran Church in Canton. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1869 in Pekin and a former member of Pekin Moose Family Center 916.
He enjoyed traveling, golfing and especially spending time with family. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears fan.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2011 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
