PEKIN ~ Bernard Dale “Bernie” Madison, 94, of Pekin, passed away at 5:20 p.m. Sunday, June 13, 2021 at Grand View Alzheimer’s Special Care in Peoria. He is now reunited at last with his beloved wife, Noni.
Born on February 16, 1927 in Kilbourne to Dale and Venus (Goben) Madison, he married Norma Jean Coryell on December 14, 1947 in Pekin. She died on February 16, 2014 in Pekin. He also was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Bernita Clagg.
Surviving are one daughter, Diana (Don) Snyder of Mackinaw; one son, Mark Madison of Pekin; two grandchildren, Amee (Doug) Suydam of Groveland and Aaron (Sunshine) Snyder of Morton; three great-grandchildren, Ashton Suydam, Elijah Snyder and Gideon Snyder and one nephew, Jeff Clagg of Apache Junction, Arizona
A 1946 graduate of Pekin Community High School, Bernie attended Western Illinois University. He then attended Bradley University, where he studied television repair. He was proud to be one of the first television repairmen in the area when televisions became available. Bernie retired from Corn Products Company (CPC) in Pekin with 47 years of service, last working as a supervisor in the instrument department. He began working at CPC at age 16.
Bernie was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and loved playing poker. He was an avid health nut, always watching what he ate and exercised many times a week throughout life.
He formerly attended Pekin Bible Church.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Philip Somers will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will follow in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
