

Born December 15, 1926 in Franklin to Wyman Carlile and Elsie Elizabeth (Moss) Bland, she married William Francis Slater on November 8, 1942 in Palmyra, Missouri. He died May 6, 2000 in Pekin. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Shirley J. Beoletto and three brothers, Wayne, Earl and Larry Bland.
Surviving are one daughter, Sandra K. (Ernest) Rupe of Pekin; two grandchildren, Scott (Carole) Harpley of Oswego and Michelle (Paul) Switzer of Tucson, Arizona; five great-grandchildren, (the triplets), Zachary, Hayden and Hannah Harpley, all of Oswego and Zoey and Quinn Switzer of Tucson, Arizona; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Bland of Lacon and Betty Bland of Madison, Alabama and several nieces and nephews.
Betty had worked at Bemis Bag Company, Inc. in Peoria as a clerk in the Plate Department for 36 years before retiring in January of 1989 and was a member of their 20 Year Club.
She was also a very active member of the Fondulac Park District Seniors Program, where she played Bingo and Mexican Dominoes.
Betty enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with her great-grandchildren.
She was a 20-plus member of First Christian Church in Pekin.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2024 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Dr. Beth Rupe will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral. Inurnment will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
