

PEKIN ~ Danny Ray Smock, 66, of Pekin, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family and was welcomed into the arms of Jesus at 2:35 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born July 15, 1948 in Jacksonville to Clarence and Cora (Claussen) Smock, he married Judy Moore on December 19, 1967 in White Hall. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Craig (Peggy) Smock of Morton and Brian Smock of Winnebago; three grandchildren, Cassie Smock, Ryan Smock and Kayla Smock, all of Morton; two sisters, Joyce Cacciatori of Auburn and Cheryl (Clarence) Howard of Winchester; and six brothers, Steven (Pat) Smock of Mt. Carmel, David Smock of Waverly, Richard (Lena) Smock of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, Stanley (Karen) Smock of Washington, Kevin (Janice) Smock of San Marcos, California and Mike (Cyndi) Smock of Jacksonville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gordon Smock and one sister, Janice White.
Danny served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, earning several medals including a Silver Star, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal and an Air Medal.
Danny had started working for Caterpillar, Inc. in 1966 on the track shoe line in Building X, eventually becoming a tool designer, and creating two patents. He retired in 2007 as a senior manufacturing engineer after 35 years of loyal service.
He was a faithful man, relying on the Lord Jesus Christ for his salvation. His life was an example of Christ-like sacrifice, and he always put others ahead of himself. He lived his life with integrity and a simple trust in the Lord.
Danny was the most loving husband and father anyone could even dream of. He was always supportive of the goals and dreams of his wife and children. He adored his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them, and supporting them by attending their activities. He enjoyed being outdoors, golfing, and was an avid yard gardener.
His celebration of life will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Cornerstone Baptist Church at 18040 Unsicker Rd. Groveland, IL 61535. The Rev. Dr. Steven E. Hauter will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin is assisting the family with arrangements.
