

MANITO ~ David Michael Cummins, 58, of 7011 Bass Road, passed away at 3:03 p.m. Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Pekin Hospital Emergency Room.Born November 6, 1950 in Peoria to Charles R. and Gertrude E. (Nielsen) Cummins, he married Debra A. Hoeft on January 1, 1972 in Pekin. She survives.Also surviving are two sons, Christopher D. “Chris” (Sarah) Cummins of Manito and Andrew S. (Rio) Cummins of Lombard; three grandsons, Tyler A. Cummins, Quentin A. Cummins and Matthew D. Cummins, all of Manito and one sister, Tina E. Powers of Santa Cruz, California.He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Stephen Charles Cummins.A 1968 graduate of Peoria High School, he graduated in 1974 from Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications.He was a Vietnam War Army veteran.Dave last worked in August for Peoria Community Bank on Knoxville Avenue as a credit counselor. He previously worked for Integrity Mortgage and as an Executive Vice President for the Credit Bureau of Peoria from 1989 to 1999.He was a former 10-year member of the Spring Lake Consolidated School District #606 Board of Education. He enjoyed golfing and playing basketball. He also was an outdoorsman and a Chicago Bears fan. First and foremost in his life was time spent with his grandsons. Dave enjoyed helping coach basketball at the Boys and Girls Club of Pekin and baseball with the Pekin Union Mission. He was a member of Pekin First Church of the Nazarene, where he was a choir member and a member of the church board. He also had been part of the finance committee and supported the children’s ministry at the church.His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 5, 2009 at Pekin First Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. W. Lloyd Brock will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin, with military rites by the United States Army and the Tazewell Military Rites Team.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Pekin First Church of the Nazarene, 3514 Broadway Road, Pekin, IL 61554.
