

Born September 23, 1917 in Ramsey to Thomas and Hettie (Nave) Moreland, he married Helen Barger of March 4, 1944 in Pekin. She died in 1966 in Pekin. He later married Melva Lawless on November 24, 1969 in Havana. She survives.
Also surviving are his daughter, Margaret (Timothy) Harrison of Pekin; two sons, Alvin (Debbie Tallett) Moreland of Spring Lake, Delbert (Sharon) Moreland, Jr. of Temperence, MI; three step-daughters, Marge Cockrum of Chatham, Mavis Simer of San Jose and Betty (Dutch) Vandenbos of Ramsey; one step-son, Mike (Sharyn) Belt of Alabama; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Helen; his daughter, Virginia; five sons, Mick, Max, Art, Jed and Gary; one step-son, Leroy Belt; two sisters; and six brothers.
Delbert had served in the United States Army.
He worked as a roofer out of Roofers Local #69 in Peoria. He later drove a taxi cab for Smokey Crafton for several years. His daughter, Margaret purchased the business from Smokey, and he then worked as a dispatcher for her for many years.
He enjoyed gardening and traveling. In his younger days, he enjoyed mushroom and deer hunting. He was formerly a member of the Empire Masonic Lodge #126 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Pekin.
Delbert’s visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Graveside services will follow immediately at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. Pastor David Wilder will officiate.
