Dixie Lighter

PEKIN- Dixie L. Lighter, 76 of Pekin, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 26, 2010 at her home.She was born September 14, 1933 in Pekin to Earl C. and Cora T. (Stallings) Lighter. Dixie is survived by one daughter, Tina Hoerr of Pekin; one granddaughter, April Duez; one grandson, John Duez, both of Pekin and four great-grandchildren, all of Pekin.She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jacquelyn Parker and Gloria June White; one brother, Kenneth Lighter, all of Pekin.Dixie worked for Pekin Public Schools District 108 at Washington Junior High School. She then worked at Pekin Hospital, retiring in 1998. Following her retirement, she began working for Professional Transportation, Inc. Local #1222 in Pekin, last working in March of this year.An avid Elvis Presley fan, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and playing bingo.Her memorial service will be at2 p.m. Friday, April 30 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. David Carrington will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Cremation has been accorded. Burial of ashes will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.Memorials may be made to the family to help with medical expenses from her last illness.
